How does print management work?

Most of us are familiar with the concept of “brokering”. Businesses across the country broker all kinds of goods and services including insurance, commercial freight, mortgages, product manufacturing, financial services, and yes, commercial printing.

Since we are talking about print management and brokering let's first define what exactly that term means. Print brokers (that’s us) are often known as print managers as this better defines their role. We provide a managed service acting as a liaison between our customers and a printer. Using our experience and knowledge of printers capabilities, time scales and cost we are responsible for ensuring our customers receive high quality jobs as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.

In addition to having your project managed professionally there’s an added benefit of having access to the kind of production capacity and technology that simply wouldn’t be viable in most print companies.

Working closely with our partner suppliers creates a win/win culture for all involved. Our print partners can concentrate on the management of production staff, machine loadings, technical breakdowns, purchasing of materials and so on. Our customers can concentrate on their core objectives and our time is focused on managing our customer's projects and communication.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy from a retail printer?

Sometimes yes, but often no. It’s not uncommon for people to make the incorrect assumption that buying direct is always the best way to purchase goods and services.  Buying from a broker often results in a better overall buying experience in terms of results and price. In the print industry we've found that our pricing is generally lower than most retail printers.

How is this possible?

We use our experience to make sure work is placed with the most suitable and therefor cost effective partners.

Think of it in terms of taking out a mortgage. You could source it yourself but more often than not you’ll get a better deal by approaching a mortgage advisor. They have a far deeper knowledge of the industry, they can avoid potentially costly pitfalls and they know which companies are offering the best terms at the time for your specific requirements. Ten Hats can provide you with the same benefits when buying print and design.
